If a recipe calls for cake flour can regular flour be used instead? It is for a pineapple upside down cake.?

You can use regular flour. Just keep in mind that cake flour is ground to a finer consistancy. So the texture may be a little courser, but it will work.If a recipe calls for cake flour can regular flour be used instead? It is for a pineapple upside down cake.?
I never use cake flour. But check your cookbook, I think the difference is that cake flour has more leavening ingredients. If a recipe calls for cake flour can regular flour be used instead? It is for a pineapple upside down cake.?
No because your cake won't make it. Use the cake flour. I tried that one time and my cake came out doughy and tough.
my mom never used cake flour she made her pineapple upside down cake the way she learnt it. she tried it with cake mix. it was bad
You can, but you need to sift, sift, sift the flour to make it very soft and fine.
Your cake will be heavy if you use regular flour. Cake flour is fine milled and much lighter than bread flour.
sift and add baking powder if it's not called for
sift it twice and fluff it up
The cake will not turn out the same if you use all-purpose flour in stead of cake flour.

All-purpose flour has a much higher gluten content and will develop more structure than a cake made with cake flour.

If possible, you should use the type flour specified in the recipe. When you are cooking, the recipe is mainly a guideline and you can add ingredients, delete ingredients, or alter the amounts without much problem. But when you bake, the recipe is a strict formula and any deviation will cause a noticeable difference in the outcome.

If you don't have cake flour, and don't have time to get it, go ahead with the all-purpose flour, just be aware that the cake will not be as light and fluffy.

Doc Hudson
I am guessing here at what cake flour and regular flour mean where you are but I am thinking that if the recipe calls for cake flour it means self raising flour (thats what we call it here in Australia) which is plain flour with raising agents such as bi carbonate of soda (maybe called baking soda where you live) and maybe cream of tartar, and regular flour would be what we call plain flour ie: it has no raising agents in it. So if my assumption is correct and you use regular flour instead of cake flour your pineapple upside down cake will not rise. hope that helps.
just so long as it says all purpose flour
I'm sure that is fine.

I have made the same cake you are making with reg. flour.
Yes, All Purpose flour can be used. just sift it to airate it. Cake flour is hard to find, and its expensive.
You can use regular flour but the cake will not be as light or delicate. But it will still taste great!
