IS VANILLA REALLY THAT IMPORTANT IN A CAKE RECIPE ?

im wanting to make a coffee flavored cake, its asking for vanilla, can i omit the vanilla, or does it really need it, or is there a substitute ??

thanks !!IS VANILLA REALLY THAT IMPORTANT IN A CAKE RECIPE ?
Vanilla is used to balance the other flavors of a cake... and just to give it that ';cake'; taste. You may omit the vanilla, but it won't taste very professional. If you don't have any vanilla, use a little almond extract (half of what the recipe calls for for vanilla).IS VANILLA REALLY THAT IMPORTANT IN A CAKE RECIPE ?
No real way to leave it out if you want the best outcome...just make sure you use pure vanilla and not vanillin coz that is artificial and then well the cake will not be as good as it can.

I always try to do the best with my ingredience as I possibly can. Try some vanilla in your egg for french toast...Ummy!
It just makes for a richer, fuller taste, vanilla and coffee do go together, but you can leave it out of most things, just not the vanilla ones.
Not necessary at all, especially if you're making it coffee flavored. Are you using strong coffee in place of the water? God, I love a good coffee cake like that.
it's just adding flavour, it won't change the basis of the cake, so you can leave it out. It will just taste a bit better with vanilla
Not really. You can use lemon juice for added flavor -- or almond extract -- or leave it out. The cake will still be good.
it adds flavour..but since you cake is coffee im guessin there's going to be tons of flavour
have made things without adding it and didn't notice anything different
