probably not something like plain chocolate cake or butter cake. i would love something that looks amazing and yet not too difficult to make.

Strawberry Cake:preheat oven to 350-grease and dust with flour 3 round cake pans set aside Recipe:1 pkge plain white cake mix,1 pkge(3oz)strawberry jello 4 Tablespoons flour1 cup vegetable oil ,1/2cup sugar, 1/2cup milk, 4large eggs ,1/2 cup finely chopped strawberries and juice~~ Frosting :1 stick butter room temp. 4 cups confectioners sugar, 1/2cup chopped strawberries %26amp; juice (or more if needed) ,1 cup halved fresh strawberries for garnish :

Mix cake ingredients except berries then add berries%26amp; juice and beat 2 minutes with electric mixer, pour into pans and bake about 35 min(cake will pull away slightly from sides)- cool completely ..Frosting: put softened butter in bowl and beat with electric mixer till fluffy, add confectioners sugar beat till fluffy, add strawberries and juice and beat till spreading consistency, if too thick, add more strawberries and juice a little at a time frost cakes in between and on on tops with sides unfrosted Decorate top with halved strawberries So beautiful for a special occasion and delicious too Note: you can buy whole frozen strawberries and defrost and use them but the fresh is better If you do use frozen put halved strawberries on paper towels to drain before decorating top of cake. Enjoy!
If this is your first time, then I suggest you bake a few ';normal'; ones first and then go with the unique ideas, because it could get complicated, I mean with the frosting , icing and all...

Or you can make a dirt cake and decorate it with flowers, gummy worms and stuff:

this is a delicious one...

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup confectioners' sugar

2 (3.5 ounce) packages instant vanilla pudding mix

3 1/2 cups milk

1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

32 ounces chocolate sandwich cookies with creme filling

Chop cookies very fine in food processor. The white cream will disappear.

Mix butter, cream cheese, and sugar in bowl.

In a large bowl mix milk, pudding and whipped topping together.

Combine pudding mixture and cream mixture together.

Layer in flower pot, starting with cookies then cream mixture. Repeat layers.

Chill until ready to serve.

Add artificial flower and trowel. Enjoy!

serves 10.

now i know u didnt want chocolate cake, BUT why dont u make a layer cake.. 1 layer choc and 1 vanilla (both basic recipes), with some yummy frosting in the middle and on top. then u could decorate it with ur friends fave candy or fruit..

just a suggestion.. i dont think it shouldnt be too difficult. good luck :)

ps: i always make frosting with softened butter and a bit of milk. and i always mix it together with hand beaters.
